I remember when I quit my job. I was so nervous! But, at the same time, I felt so peaceful knowing I did not have to go to work the next day. I knew my future was in my own hands.
How to quit your job (Safely)
I didn’t quit my job out of the blue. There was a strategy to this madness. I had already been working on my business on the site for 3 years and I was seeing good results. I recommend not quitting your job right away.
You will feel a lot better about quitting if you know your side business is already creating income. About income, make sure to save up 3-6 months worth of expenses. Since, you won’t have a paycheck coming in consistently it’s important to have your own safety net. This will also take the weight off quitting.
One more important thing about quitting is that you want to leave the door open. When I wrote my 2 weeks notice I wasn’t a jerk about it. Being honest with your employer is key. I worked for a Sprint franchise owner and in my email, I told him that I appreciated the opportunity of working as a manager and that I enjoyed my job for the 4 years I was there. I also mentioned that the same way he quit his job to start this business, I had to try to start my own business as well. This way I knew that if I ever needed to come back I would be on good terms with the company and owner.
Quitting your job and starting a business can be scary, but it doesn’t have to be. I hope these tips and my video help you make your life’s next big move!
